Newcott Farm Holiday Cottages

We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful area of Dartmoor National Park in the hamlet of Ponsworthy. We live on a small hill farm which has been in my family for as far back in time as we can trace. Ponsworthy is near the village of Widecombe in the Moor famous for its fair and Uncle Tom Cobley.

Steve’s brother manages the farm in the traditional way raising beef cattle. There are about eighty acres in all and a combination of pasture and woodland. Although we live on the farm we are not involved in the day to day running of it.

Steve is a self employed Landscape Gardener and Diane manages the day to day running of the cottages, updating the websites and general office work.

A few years ago we decided to widen our interests and develop a small breeding herd of Alpacas. This has been a very interesting and enjoyable experience which we are continuing to develop it has become part of our daily routine.

Very often in life one thing leads to another in our case Alpacas lead to Llamas. As we live in such a beautiful part of the country we thought that walking llamas on the moor would be a lovely way to spend time.

We also keep a few hens to provide us with freshly laid eggs. Each year we have couple of pigs for our own meat so sometimes we have Sausages and pork for sale

Many people return to our cottages just to enjoy our cute and cuddly Alpacas and Llamas. As part of your holiday you can visit the animals in their paddocks or book a Llama walk on the Moor.

The holiday cottages are set in a fantastic location near the small village of Poundsgate it is surrounded by traditional Dartmoor buildings including thatch cottages. There is a thriving pub in the village which serves good food and local ales, this has been highly recommended by many of our Guests this year.

The famous village of Widecombe-in-the-moor is just a few miles away which has a bigger range of pubs, cafes and shops.  Widecombe has a farmers market once a month selling a large range of local produce and crafts.

A little further away you can find the towns of Ashburton and Bovey Tracey which will provide you with a wide range of little shops including supermaket, deli’s, bakery, butchers and many antique shops along with a good range of eating establishments.
